Police have set up a command center out in Manorville that is being said to be in connection to the Gilgo Beach murder investigation. K9 units from the NYPD have joined the search along with SCPD. Although multiple outlets are reporting it is connected, officials have not confirmed that it is a part of the Gilgo Beach murder investigation.
A representative from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said that they will not confirm that the searches are Gilgo related.
“The Suffolk County Police Department, the New York Police Department and the New York State Police are working with the District Attorney’s Office on an ongoing investigation,” the DA’s office said in a statement to LITrueCrimes.com. “We do not comment on investigative steps while they are underway. We will make further statements when appropriate.”
Rex Heuermann faces charges linked to the deaths of four women discovered near Gilgo Beach on Long Island over ten years ago. Identified as the “Gilgo Four,” the women—Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, and Amber Costello—were found in December 2010, their bodies wrapped in burlap, as documented in court records.
In 2011, another victim’s remains, who has so far not been associated with Heuermann, were found in Gilgo and Manorville. Valerie Mack’s head, hands, and right foot were discovered on Gilgo Beach, while her torso had been found 11 years prior in Manorville, approximately 40 miles east of Gilgo. Likewise, Jessica Taylor’s skull, hands, and one forearm were found near Ocean Parkway beach in March 2011, with her torso having been discovered in Manorville in 2003.
