Second Student Arrested for Threatening Mass Harm on Long Island Schools This Week

Greenlawn, N.Y. – In the second incident of its kind this week, a Greenlawn teenager has been arrested for making a threat of mass harm at Old Field Middle School.

The arrest occurred on Friday, May 17, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m. when Suffolk County Police Second Precinct Crime Section officers responded to Old Field Middle School, located at 2 Old Field Road, after being alerted by a school official. The official reported that a female student had made a threat of mass harm on May 13.

Following the notification, school authorities conducted a search of the student’s locker. The student was subsequently arrested at the school without incident.

The teenager has been charged with Threat of Mass Harm, a misdemeanor, and will be arraigned in Suffolk County Family Court at a later date.

This arrest marks the second time this week that a Long Island student has been detained for making threats at a school. The first incident involved a different student earlier in the week in Deer Park who was arrested on Thursday after bringing a BB gun to Robert Frost Middle School and making threats towards the school community.

A criminal charge is an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
