Update: Suspect Arrested in Fatal Medford Hit-and-Run Crash

Driver Who Fled Scene of Tragic Collision Now in Custody

MEDFORD, N.Y. – Suffolk County Police have arrested a man in connection with the hit-and-run crash that killed one man and seriously injured another on June 8 in Medford. The suspect, Dolores Mancia-Landaverde, was apprehended following an investigation by Major Case Unit detectives.

Mancia-Landaverde, 28, of Medford, is accused of driving the 2008 BMW that collided with a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Horseblock Road and Express Drive North at 1:52 a.m. on June 8. After the crash, he allegedly fled the scene on foot, leaving his passengers behind.

Tragically, Hedilberto Nava Perez, 44, of Medford, who was a passenger in the BMW, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Another passenger, Adan Nava Palacios, 20, also of Medford, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized at Stony Brook University Hospital.

Mancia-Landaverde has been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Incident Involving a Fatality. He is currently held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on June 11.
