LiTrueCrime.com previously reported on the case of Judah Karkowsky, a former Commissioner of the Woodmere Fire District. On Thursday, June 21st, Karkowsky was sentenced to one year in jail for using falsified court documents to file multiple multimillion-dollar lawsuits.
Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced the sentence, emphasizing that Karkowsky’s actions were a blatant attack on the integrity of the criminal justice system. Karkowsky, 44, was convicted in April for creating a fake court transcript related to a dismissed misdemeanor sex abuse case and using it to file Notices of Claim against the Woodmere Fire District, Fire Department, and Nassau County.
The former fire commissioner’s fraudulent activities began after his misdemeanor case was dismissed on procedural grounds in May 2022. Karkowsky sent a falsified court transcript to a synagogue representative, attempting to regain full access after being shunned. He later used the same fake document to claim $15 million each from the Woodmere Fire District and Nassau County, alleging false arrest and prosecution.
Despite Karkowsky’s attempts to deceive, evidence at trial, including testimony from the presiding judge and official court reporter, proved the falsification. Karkowsky’s actions ultimately led to his conviction on multiple felony charges, including Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument and Offering a False Instrument for Filing.
