Another Fourth of July celebration turned into a nightmare on Long Island when when in Copiague a young man’s attempt to light a firework resulted in a devastating explosion, causing severe injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. in front of 284 Trouville Road, where Ryan McCloskey was attending a party.
As McCloskey lit the firework, it exploded in his hand, severing three fingers on his left hand and damaging the other two. He also suffered a burn to one leg. First Precinct Patrol officers quickly responded to the scene and applied a tourniquet to stem the bleeding before McCloskey, 21, of Eastchester, NY, was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip. He is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 631-854-8152.
