Levittown Man Sparks Fireworks Blaze That Caused Extensive Damage to Two Homes

A Levittown man faces multiple charges after a Fourth of July fireworks display caused a fire that destroyed two homes and displaced a tenant.

Early on the morning of July 4th, officers responded to reports of a fire at 128 Red Maple Drive North. Investigations revealed that Karamjit Singh, 33, supplied an 11-year-old child with fireworks and instructed the child to ignite them. The fireworks malfunctioned, causing a detached shed in Singh’s yard to catch fire. The blaze quickly spread, engulfing Singh’s home and a neighboring residence at 122 Red Maple Drive North.

The Wantagh Fire Department swiftly responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the flames. Despite the extensive damage to both homes, no injuries were reported. The tenant living on the second floor of Singh’s residence was displaced due to the fire. Nassau County Fire Marshals conducted a thorough investigation on-site.

Karamjit Singh was arrested without incident and charged with two counts of Arson 4th Degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Unlawfully Selling Fireworks to a Person under 18, Unlawfully Possessing Use or Exploding Fireworks, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Singh is scheduled to be arraigned on July 5, 2024, at First District Court in Hempstead. The 11-year-old child was released to a family member following the incident.
