Business Owner Charged After Knife Attack in Franklin Square

A verbal dispute over parking spaces escalated into violence on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of a Hicksville man. The incident occurred on July 10, 2024, at approximately 1:55 PM in Franklin Square.

According to detectives, the owner of OK Gas Station at 66 New Hyde Park Road, Daljit Singh, 58, had a confrontation with a neighboring business employee over the parking of vehicles on his property. The argument became heated, and Singh allegedly struck the 64-year-old male victim with a small knife, causing lacerations to the left side of his neck and arm.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment of his injuries, which included two small lacerations.

Singh was arrested without incident and has been charged with Attempted Assault in the 1st Degree, Assault in the 2nd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree. He went before a judge on July 11th.

A temporary order of protection was issued against Singh. He pled not guilty to charges and was released without bail. Singh, who is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, is expected back in court on July 18th.

A criminal charge is an accusation, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one is above the law.
