Shinnecock Reservation Altercation Leads to Arrest of Armed Southampton Man

Southampton, NY – An early morning altercation on Sunday led to the arrest of a Southampton man on multiple felony charges after he assaulted another man and was found with a firearm on the Shinnecock Reservation.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on July 22nd, State Troopers were dispatched to the Shinnecock Reservation in the Town of Southampton following reports of a violent altercation. Upon arrival, officers found the victim with minor facial injuries, allegedly inflicted by the suspect, Arnay Terry, 49, of Southampton.

Terry had fled the scene on foot and was later discovered lying on the ground in thick shrubbery near the residence, with a firearm nearby. Troopers took Terry into custody.

Terry faces a slew of charges, including Assault in the Second Degree with intention to cause physical injury with a weapon (D Felony), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree for a loaded firearm (C Felony), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (D Felony), Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree (D Felony), Menacing in the Second Degree (A Misdemeanor), and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misdemeanor).

The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the altercation and subsequent arrest.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
