Update: A Queens man was arrested on Tuesday, July 23rd for a string of burglaries, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
According to detectives, officers responded to a 911 call for a male inside of Macy’s located at 1000 Green Acres Mall, prior to business hours. Ramel Payne, 19, of 141-41 255th Street, was observed forcibly opening multiple registers in the store and removing the contents. He exited the building using a fire exit and was arrested.
During the investigation it was determined Payne was responsible for six additional burglaries at the same location.
Payne is charged with seven counts of Burglary 3rd Degree. He was arraigned on Wednesday, July 24th at First District Court in Hempstead. He pled not guilty. Bail was set at $2,000 cash and $4,000 insured bond. Payne, who is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, is due back in court on July 26th.
Original story: Valley Stream shoppers were met with a surprise on Sunday morning after an unknown man targeted Macy’s at the Green Acres Mall.
According to Nassau County Police, sometime around 7:58 am on July 21st, a male suspect gained entry through an unlocked side door. Once inside, the suspect allegedly pried open and damaged four cash registers, stealing an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene on foot, heading westbound.
Police are searching for a black male suspect, approximately 5’8″ tall and between 25-30 years old. He is described as having dreadlocks and wearing a black sweatshirt, black shorts, and black sneakers.
Security footage or witness accounts could be crucial in apprehending the suspect. Nassau County Crime Stoppers is offering anonymity and a potential reward for any information leading to an arrest. Anyone with details is urged to call 1-800-244-TIPS or 911.
