Speeding Stop Leads to Gun Arrest in Woodbury

A routine traffic stop in Woodbury on Friday night turned up more than a speeding ticket for a Brooklyn man.

Nassau County Police report that officers with the Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team (CIRRT) were on patrol when they spotted a gray 2011 Mercedes-Benz traveling northbound on Woodbury Road at a high rate of speed. The officers pulled the vehicle over shortly after 9:00 pm on July 19th.

Following an investigation, police say they recovered a loaded 9mm Ruger handgun and a switchblade knife from inside the car. The driver, 20-year-old Emmanuel E. Pressley of Brooklyn, was arrested without incident.

Pressley now faces serious weapons charges. He was arraigned on Saturday, July 20th, at First District Court in Hempstead. These charges include Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
