14-Year Old Arrested in Violent Attack in Manhattan on 58-Year-Old Woman

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested for a baseball bat attack on a 58-year-old woman in Manhattan, which was caught on surveillance video, according to a report in the Daily News. The incident, deemed random by police, took place on June 25th near Monroe and Market Streets, close to the Manhattan Bridge.

The victim, Shi Yanan, was assaulted by two masked individuals. One attacker punched her in the head when she confronted them, and then the duo pushed her into a doorframe, beating her with a baseball bat, and punching and kicking her.

Police apprehended the teen, identified as the one wielding the bat, at his home nearby. He is charged with assault. Yanan, who sustained injuries to her head and leg, was treated at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and released.
