Two men have been arrested in Floral Park for allegedly running a scheme to defraud elderly homeowners by posing as unlicensed home improvement contractors. According to Nassau County Police, the investigation revealed that the suspects, associated with “Top Line Masonry,” targeted elderly homeowners, offering to perform construction work and then falsely reporting or causing additional damage to extort money.
The suspects were apprehended on Monday, July 22, 2024, when a 2012 White Ford F150 matching the description of the vehicle used in the scheme was spotted by Floral Park officers near the intersection of Revere Drive East and Revere Drive West. Following an investigation, David Young, 31, of Philadelphia, and Adam Turner, 25, who is homeless, were arrested without incident. No injuries were reported at the scene.
Further investigation determined that Young and Turner were responsible for similar fraudulent activities at two additional locations in Bellerose Terrace. Both defendants are charged with three counts of Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, three counts of Scheme to Defraud 1st degree, Attempted Scheme to Defraud 1st degree, two counts of Conspiracy 5th degree, Grand Larceny 2nd Degree, and three counts of Peddling/Soliciting. Additionally, David Young faces a charge of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd degree. The two men were arraigned on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at First District Court, located at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
Both suspects pled not guilty and were released on cashless bail. They are both due back in court on August 5th.
