Amityville, NY – Two Suffolk County Police officers found themselves playing the role of storks Thursday afternoon.
Officers Peter Verhey and Joshua Valderrama of the First Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting a woman in labor at 75 The Blvd. in Amityville. Upon arrival, they discovered Aylara Alleyne, 34, in active labor in her bathroom.
The officers stepped in to help Alleyne deliver her baby boy. EMTs arrived shortly after the birth to provide further assistance. Both the mother and her newborn were transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where they were reported to be in good condition.
“These officers went above and beyond the call of duty,” said a police spokesperson. “We’re proud of their quick thinking and calm under pressure.”
For Aylara Alleyne, Thursday’s events were unforgettable, marking the day her son made his dramatic entrance into the world with the help of Suffolk County’s finest.
