In a series of troubling incidents across Nassau County, law enforcement officers faced violent confrontations and disturbing behavior. This week so far saw the police respond to various calls, resulting in multiple arrests and ongoing investigations. From a brutal assault in Island Park to a combative suspect in Mineola and an alarming act of public lewdness in Glenwood Landing, Nassau County police were kept busy dealing with the darker side of human behavior. Here are the details of each incident.
Island Park Assault and Burglary
Nassau County Police report the arrest of Malik Hodge, 28, of Far Rockaway, following an assault that occurred on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 7:08 a.m. in Island Park. Officers responded to a burglary call at a residence on Kildare Road and located Hodge near Long Beach Road and Carolina Avenue. During the arrest attempt, Hodge became violent and combative, resulting in one officer sustaining injuries and requiring hospital treatment. Hodge was also transported to a hospital for evaluation. He faces charges of Burglary 3rd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. Hodge is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at First District Court in Hempstead.
Mineola Hospital Assault
In Mineola, Nassau County Police arrested Christopher Piccoli, 37, of Valley Stream, following an assault at NYU Langone Hospital Long Island on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Piccoli was involved in a verbal argument with a female and refused to leave the hospital premises. When officers attempted to take him into custody, he resisted and became violent, leading to the deployment of a Taser. Two officers sustained injuries during the altercation and were treated at a local hospital, along with Piccoli, who was also evaluated. Piccoli faces charges of two counts of Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree, and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at First District Court in Hempstead.
Public Lewdness in Glenwood Landing
Nassau County Police are investigating an incident of public lewdness that took place on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 7:10 p.m. in Glenwood Landing. A 26-year-old woman reported that a male in a greenish-gray Toyota SUV with NY registration blocked her driveway on Glenwood Road. When she approached the vehicle, she observed the man performing a lewd act. The suspect, described as a Hispanic male approximately 35-40 years old, 5’10” with black hair and a skinny build, drove off towards Glen Cove Avenue. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and khaki shorts. Police urge anyone with information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. All tips remain anonymous.
