Suffolk County Police have arrested two men in connection with the shooting death of Michael Hartmann, who was killed outside his Bohemia home on November 2, 2022. On that morning, at approximately 6:35 a.m., Hartmann, 49, was smoking a cigarette in the backyard of his residence at 605 Smithtown Ave. when two individuals entered his yard and fired multiple shots. After being struck, Hartmann crawled into his home where he succumbed to his injuries. Hartmann had three daughters who were inside the house at the time of the shooting. At the time, Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison suggested the shooters might have had personal knowledge of Hartmann’s routine, as they targeted him in his backyard.
Following a thorough investigation by the Homicide Squad, authorities have charged Christopher Fernandez, 28, of 5 8th Street, Sound Beach, and Oliver Schor, 22, of 125 Tyler Ave., Miller Place, with Murder 2nd Degree. Fernandez is currently being held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July 31.
Update: Fernandez pled not guilty and he was remanded by the court without bail. He is due back in court on August 5th.
Schor was apprehended in Lexington, South Carolina, with the help of the Lexington County Police Department. He was arrested as a fugitive from justice and will be arraigned in New York at a later date.
