On July 1, 2024, New York State Troopers responded to a report of a dog tied to a light pole on the Southern State Parkway. The dog, a Mastiff named Roxi, was taken to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, prompting an investigation by the State Police to identify the individual responsible for abandoning her.
Thanks to the assistance provided by the public and the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, State Troopers identified Glenroy J. Bramble, 65, as the suspect. On August 1, 2024, Bramble was located and arrested. According to a State Police report, Bramble was charged under the Agriculture and Markets Law with Abandonment of an Animal (Unclassified Misdemeanor) and Failing to Provide Appropriate Shelter for a Dog (Violation). He was issued appearance tickets and is due to appear at Nassau County District Court on August 19th at 9:00 a.m.
The story of Roxi’s abandonment and rescue gained widespread attention, especially after details emerged about the Good Samaritan who found her. A passerby named Ray Quiñones discovered Roxi tied to the pole and immediately called the authorities. Quiñones stayed with Roxi until the troopers arrived, ensuring she was safe and calm.
