In a series of separate incidents across Nassau County, law enforcement officers responded to various criminal activities ranging from assault and robbery to burglary and grand larceny. The following are details of the incidents and arrests as reported by the Nassau County Police Department.
Louis Vuitton Bag Snatched at Gunpoint in Levittown
A late-night robbery in Levittown left a young man shaken but unharmed after two armed suspects forced him to surrender his Louis Vuitton bag. The robbery took place on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 11:51 p.m. The 20-year-old victim had just pulled into the driveway of his Kingfisher Road home when he noticed his front door ajar. Before he could exit his vehicle, two unknown males, both brandishing firearms, approached him and demanded his luxury bag. The victim complied, and the suspects fled on foot, heading north on Kingfisher Road. The first suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 5’7” tall, wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants, and a facemask. The second suspect is a Black male, approximately 6’0” tall, similarly dressed in black with a facemask. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers.
Two Thieves Raid Oceanside Vape Shop in Smash-and-Grab
In the early hours of Friday, August 16, 2024, a commercial burglary rocked the Oceanside community when two male suspects broke into the Oceanside Star Bazaar Vape and Cigar Shop at 2947 Long Beach Road. The duo shattered the front glass door at 12:19 AM, gaining entry and quickly grabbing an unknown quantity of vape products. They then fled the scene on foot, heading eastbound on Atlantic Avenue. The first suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6’0” tall, wearing a grey t-shirt with a green logo, black pants, black socks, and a black face mask. The second suspect, also approximately 6’0” tall, wore a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and a black mask. The investigation continues, with Nassau County Crime Stoppers requesting any relevant information from the public.
Freeport Man Arrested After Assaulting Woman in Roosevelt
A Freeport man is in custody after a violent assault in Roosevelt on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Darryl Goins, 64, attacked a 29-year-old woman with a firearm near the intersection of Greenwich Avenue and Nassau Road. The victim refused medical attention at the scene, and Goins fled. Detectives later tracked him down in Amityville, where he was arrested and a firearm was recovered. Goins is charged with Menacing 2nd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. He will be arraigned on Friday, August 16, 2024, at First District Court in Hempstead.
Oceanside Man Robs 7-Eleven of 20 Cigarette Boxes
An Oceanside man is behind bars following a robbery at a 7-Eleven on Atlantic Avenue. On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 5:20 a.m., Anthony Candelaria, 38, entered the convenience store and began taking cigarette boxes from behind the counter. Candelaria threatened the store clerk before leaving without paying for the items. Police apprehended him shortly afterward without incident. Candelaria is charged with Robbery 3rd Degree and will be arraigned on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at First District Court in Hempstead.
Drunk Driver Crashes into Westbury Building
A Wantagh man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after crashing his car into a vacant building in Westbury. The incident occurred early Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 2:40 a.m. Aidan Schwartz, 21, was driving a 2019 Honda Civic when he lost control and collided with the building at 1137 Old Country Road. Police removed Schwartz from the vehicle and arrested him for DWI, along with multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. The building sustained extensive damage, and Schwartz was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
Teen Arrested After Brandishing Imitation Pistol in Hicksville
A 17-year-old male is facing charges after threatening a female victim with what appeared to be a firearm in Hicksville. The incident took place early Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 12:50 a.m. The juvenile brandished the imitation pistol, later identified as a BB gun, at a residence before fleeing the scene. Police apprehended him shortly afterward without incident. He is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and Menacing 2nd Degree and will be arraigned in the Youth Part of First District Court in Hempstead.
Juvenile Arrested for Possession of Loaded Handgun in Lakeview
A 17-year-old male is in custody after being found with a loaded Ruger .380 handgun during a routine traffic stop in Lakeview. On Monday, August 12, 2024, at 10:10 pm, Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team officers observed a black 2008 Nissan Altima speeding northbound on Woodfield Road. After stopping the vehicle, officers discovered the weapon inside. The juvenile was arrested without incident and is facing multiple charges, including two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at First District Court in Hempstead.
13-Year-Old Arrested for Multiple Burglaries in Merrick
A 13-year-old male has been arrested for attempting to burglarize Merrick Bicycles early Sunday morning, August 18, 2024. The juvenile, who tried to break into the store at 1827 Merrick Avenue, was apprehended after police linked him to two other burglary incidents at the same location on August 16 and August 13. He is charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, two counts of Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, and Possession of Burglar Tools. The juvenile was issued an appearance ticket and will appear in Nassau County Family Court on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
Family Shoplifting Spree Ends in Arrests at East Garden City Macy’s
Three Brooklyn residents, along with their juvenile children, were arrested for grand larceny at Macy’s in East Garden City. On Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 6:50 pm, Amparo Tipanta Tipantuna, 43, Brayan Callatasig Guanotasig, 21, and Katherine Pila Tipantuna, 25, entered the store and concealed 67 pieces of merchandise inside bags and a stroller. The juveniles, aged 13, 10, and 3, actively participated in the theft. The group exited the store without paying but was apprehended by store security. The adults face charges of Grand Larceny, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Criminal Solicitation 3rd Degree, with additional charges for Possession of Burglar Tools and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree for two of the defendants. The juveniles were released to a relative, and the adults will be arraigned on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at First District Court in Hempstead.
