A school bus driver for the William Floyd School District has been arrested in a child porn case.
Guenther Mayrhofer, 71, of Mastic Beach, allegedly downloaded and uploaded numerous images and videos depicting child sexual abuse to a cloud storage account, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney.
The investigation began when the New York State Police received a tip that Mayrhofer had allegedly uploaded approximately 20 images of child sexual abuse to his cloud account. Acting on this information, state police executed a search warrant at Mayrhofer’s home on August 15, 2024, where they recovered multiple electronic devices and storage media.
A thorough review of the seized devices reportedly uncovered over one hundred images and videos of children being sexually abused, which Mayrhofer had allegedly downloaded and saved.
“This case is particularly disturbing because the defendant was in close proximity to children every day as a school bus driver,” said District Attorney Tierney. “There is nothing more important to my office than protecting children and tracking down predators in our community. I thank the New York State Police for their diligent investigation in this case.”
Mayrhofer was indicted on 25 felony counts.
He was arraigned on August 29, 2024 and ordered held on $150,000 cash, $500,000 bond, or a $1.5 million partially secured bond. He is scheduled to return to court on October 8, 2024, and is currently being represented by the Suffolk County Legal Aid Society.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have been victimized by Mayrhofer to come forward and contact the New York State Police, the Suffolk County Police Department, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
