A 15-year-old Lindenhurst student was arrested Wednesday after allegedly making a terrifying online threat to commit a mass shooting at Brennan High School in West Babylon.

The Suffolk County Police responded to a 911 call reporting that the teen, who attends Brennan High School, made a violent threat during an online chat with other students. In the chat, the teenager threatened to shoot people at the school, sending shockwaves through the community. Fortunately, the threat was made outside of school hours, and no immediate danger to students or staff was present.

Following a swift investigation by Second Precinct Crime Section officers and Second Squad detectives, along with assistance from First Precinct patrol officers, the student was taken into custody. Due to the teen’s age, his identity is not being disclosed.

The 15-year-old was charged with Making a Threat of Mass Harm, a misdemeanor, and was released into the custody of his family. He is expected to be arraigned in Suffolk County Family Court at a later date as police continue their investigation into the nature of the threat.
