Authorities Seek Public’s Help in Identifying Gilgo Beach Victim Known as “Asian Doe”

Investigators are looking to the public for help in identifying the remains of an Asian male Gilgo homicide victim AKA “Asian Doe,” discovered on Ocean Parkway on April 4, 2011. The person was found wearing women’s clothing.

The remains are believed to belong to a biological male of Asian descent, likely from Southern China, aged between 17 and 23 at the time of death. The individual is estimated to have been between 5’3″ and 5’9″ tall, and forensic experts believe that death occurred at least five years prior to the body’s discovery.

The victim, whose death has been linked to the Gilgo murders case, was found wearing women’s clothing. The clothing items recovered include a blue ribbed short-sleeve ‘Chrysantheme’ shirt, a ‘Rafaella’ brand shirt, ‘Bill Blass’ pants, and a bra.

Facial reconstructions of the victim have been created by a forensic artist with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) to depict what the individual may have looked like prior to their disappearance and murder.

In the event the victim identified as female, an additional facial reconstruction has been provided. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office emphasized that skin tone and hairstyle predictions were made to assist in identifying the victim, but should not be used to exclude any possible information.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted online through the Suffolk County Police Department’s website or mobile app. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to the identification of the victim. Translation services are available for non-English speakers submitting tips in their native language.

This case is being handled by the Gilgo Homicide Task Force.

The Suffolk DA’s office has not linked this victim to alleged so-called Long Island Serial Killer Rex Heuermann.

In June, Heuermann was charged in two additional murders in the growing list that brought the count to six in total. Heuermann was indicted on the murders of Jessica Taylor, who authorities say was killed in July 2003 and Sandra Costilla, whose death tracks back to November 1993. All of the previous murders occurred between 2007 and 2010. Previously, Heuermann was indicted for the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

“We are not going to stop,” said Ray Tierney on continuing the investigation of other murders. “We can’t stop. We owe that to the victims.”
