A joyous Fourth of July celebration turned into a harrowing ordeal for a family in Port Jefferson Station when a fireworks display went catastrophically wrong, resulting in severe injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. at 9 Foxrun Court, where a large crowd had gathered to enjoy the festivities.

Patrice Ambroise, 38, of Mount Sinai, along with his pregnant wife, Ashley, and their young daughter, Amelia, were excited to celebrate the holiday together. However, their evening took a tragic turn when a firework malfunctioned, exploding into the unsuspecting crowd.

Witnesses reported that Patrice, Ashley, and Amelia were a few houses away from the main display when the firework exploded, causing chaos and injuries.

Patrice sustained severe injuries, with parts of the firework lodging in his leg, requiring emergency surgery to save the limb. Ashley suffered significant injuries to her hand, with shards from the firework penetrating her flesh. Their daughter, Amelia, endured second-degree burns and had to undergo emergency surgery to remove debris and treat her extensive injuries.

The family is currently admitted to Stony Brook University Hospital, with all three members facing a long road to recovery. Ashley’s condition is being closely monitored due to her pregnancy, adding an additional layer of concern and complexity to her treatment.

In response to this devastating event, a close family friend has launched a fundraiser to support Patrice, Ashley, and Amelia during their recovery. The funds raised will help cover medical expenses and the cost of hiring around-the-clock care, which will be necessary once they are released from the hospital.
