A Deer Park student was arrested on Thursday after bringing a BB gun to Robert Frost Middle School and making threats towards the school community, according to Suffolk County Police.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:25 a.m. when First Precinct Patrol officers responded to the school, located at 450 Half Hollow Road. The student displayed the BB gun and threatened to cause harm.
A security guard escorted the student to the principal’s office. There, the student handed over the BB gun to school officials. The student was then isolated from other students to ensure their safety.
First Precinct Crime Section officers conducted a thorough investigation and determined that there was no credible threat to the school community. Despite this, the seriousness of the situation led to immediate action by law enforcement.
First Squad detectives charged the student with Aggravated Threat of Mass Harm, a Class A misdemeanor. The student was released to a family member and is scheduled to be arraigned at Suffolk County Family Court at a later date.
