Drunk Driver Crashes Mercedes into Police Car on Long Island Expressway

A man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after crashing his Mercedes into a marked police vehicle in Dix Hills late Saturday night, according to Suffolk County Police. Jason Ligon, 57, was driving a 2020 Mercedes sedan westbound on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 50 when he collided with the rear of a stopped police vehicle responding to another call at 10:20 p.m.

The officer inside the police vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The incident prompted a response from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team (SAFE-T Team), which determined that Ligon was intoxicated. Ligon, a resident of Great Neck, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is currently being held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
