An East Meadow woman was arrested following a tragic vehicular accident that claimed the life of an 82-year-old man in Old Bethpage on Friday evening.
Cheryl Bergenstock, 64, of 1945 Longfellow Avenue, was behind the wheel of a 2023 Subaru Forester when she collided with a 2019 Toyota Corolla driven by Alan Goldsand on Round Swamp Road near Winding Road at approximately 7:20 p.m.
The impact of the crash was severe, leading to Goldsand’s immediate airlift by the Nassau County Police Department’s Aviation Unit to a nearby hospital. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead by a staff physician. Bergenstock was also taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
An investigation uncovered that Bergenstock was intoxicated at the time of the accident. She was subsequently arrested and charged with Vehicular Assault 2nd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, and Driving While Intoxicated.
