Massapequa Man Busted with Loaded Handgun During Routine Traffic Stop in Bethpage

Bethpage, NY – Nassau County Police arrested Shyheim Smith, 27, of Massapequa, on multiple weapons charges following a traffic stop in Bethpage on June 4, 2024.

According to detectives, officers from the Eighth Precinct conducted a vehicle traffic law stop near the intersection of Union Avenue and Hicksville Road at approximately 10:40 a.m. During the stop, a thorough investigation led to the discovery of a black handgun inside the vehicle. Smith, who resides at 4387 Merrick Road, was arrested without incident.

Smith is facing several charges, including two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at First District Court, located at 99 Main Street in Hempstead.

As a reminder, a criminal charge is an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
