Mount Sinai Carnival Shut Down Saturday Night Over Brawls

The semi-annual carnival at Heritage Park in Mount Sinai (sometimes referred to as The Wedge) was shut down on Saturday night due to fights breaking out. Suffolk County police confirmed that they responded to the location.

“Police were at the event and due to numerous disturbances the event was shut down,” SCPD said in a statement to LITrueCrimes.com.

On their Facebook page, The Heritage Center released a statement about the event:

Groups of unaccompanied teens acting out caused us to close early tonight. We had a wonderful day with many families and are extremely disheartened that the actions of these few individuals spoiled the rest of the evening.”

They also thanked the police, crossing guards, security team, staff and Newton Shows for their support.

“As a team we only want to bring joy, smiles and happiness to our little oasis,” they went on to say.

On Sunday, the Heritage Park said that the policy for the event was that anyone 17 years old or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and that compliance  will be enforced by our Suffolk County Police Department.

This was not an isolated event as last year, teens also fought at the carnival shutting it down.
