Human Remains Found in East Patchogue Result in Arrest of 72-Year-Old Man

Human remains discovered in East Patchogue have led to the arrest of a Patchogue man on charges of tampering with evidence and concealment of a corpse. On Thursday, June 27, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Suffolk County Police Department detectives uncovered human remains along Montauk Highway near County Road 101. The remains were transported to the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner for an autopsy and identification.

Following a thorough investigation by Homicide Squad and Fifth Squad detectives, Garry Cowell, 72, of 20 Edwards St., was arrested. The investigation revealed Cowell’s involvement in tampering with physical evidence and concealing the human corpse. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
