Selden Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Drug Trafficking and Firearm Possession

Central Islip, NY — Marlon Thompson, 42, of Selden, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his involvement in a drug trafficking scheme that led to the death of a young Long Island man. Thompson was also convicted of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and illegal possession of firearms.

Between January 2017 and May 2019, Thompson conspired to distribute fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine base throughout Suffolk County. On Christmas Day in 2018, Thompson provided fentanyl to Freddy Koenig, who suffered a fatal overdose at his parents’ home in Selden. Despite Koenig’s death, Thompson continued to distribute these dangerous substances in the community for several months.

When law enforcement arrested Thompson, they found fentanyl and drug packaging materials in his basement bedroom, along with three illegal guns, including a sawed-off shotgun, and ammunition in his storage unit. Evidence presented at his trial included testimonies from co-conspirators, incriminating text messages, drug paraphernalia, and large sums of money from drug sales.

United States District Judge Joan M. Azrack sentenced Thompson to 30 years in prison. He was found guilty on all counts following a jury trial in December 2022.

“Today, Thompson was held accountable for the large quantities of fentanyl he distributed all over Suffolk County, which had a devastating impact on the community, including the tragic poisoning death of a young man on Long Island,” said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace.
