Three Freeport Men Arrested for Weapon Possession After Shot Spotter Incident

Freeport, NY – Nassau County Detectives arrested three Freeport men for Criminal Possession of a Weapon following an incident that occurred on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at 2:34 am in Freeport.

According to Detectives, Freeport Police Officers responded to a shot spotter incident near Main Street and Leonard Avenue. Upon arrival, an officer witnessed a gray 2008 Honda CRV with dark tinted windows speeding away from the scene. The officer promptly initiated a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the rear passenger, Jean Rodriguez, 24, of 145 Randall Avenue, was in possession of a loaded 9mm “ghost” handgun. Rodriguez was arrested without resistance.

The driver, Dionny Quiroz, 33, of 231 W. Merrick Road, and the front passenger, Jostin Paez Vasquez, 21, of 42 Jesse Street, were also taken into custody without incident. Quiroz was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for assessment.

All three defendants face charges including Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. Additionally, Rodriguez faces an extra charge of Reckless Endangerment.

Rodriguez and Vasquez were scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, at First District Court in Hempstead, while Quiroz will be arraigned once medically practical.
