Pizza Fundraiser Donates Over $181K to Family of Slain NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller and Three Police Charities

Syosset, N.Y. – In a heartwarming show of community support for police, the organizers of LI Pizza Strong presented a check for $181,550 on Sunday, May 19th, to Stephanie Diller, the widow of slain NYPD officer Jonathan Diller, along with three police charities. The Dillers live in Massapequa Park.

The fundraising event, held on April 17th, saw pizzerias across Long Island donate $5 for every pie sold to support police families and charities.

“I am grateful from the bottom of my heart,” said Stephanie Diller, speaking at the event.

Stephanie has faced immense hardship since her husband Jonathan was tragically shot to death during a traffic stop in Far Rockaway.

Despite her grief, Stephanie expressed pride in her community, stating, “I am proud to be a Long Islander.” She was joined by her family, including her brother, as she accepted the donation at Phil’s Pizza shop in Syosset.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino attended the event, emphasizing the importance of supporting law enforcement.

“We must protect the people who protect us,” he said. “Here on Long Island, we back the blue.”

Long Island Pizza Strong was founded by Alyssa Guidice, who runs the Dine LI Facebook group, Anthony Laurino from Phil’s Pizzeria in Syosset, and Jim Serpico from Side Hustle Bread. The fundraiser united Long Islanders to support the Diller family and three police charities: The Silver Shield Foundation, Beyond the Badge NY, and Project Thank a Cop.

During the fundraiser, a total of 31,377 pies were sold, generating $181,550, including additional donations. Anthony Laurino reflected on the significance of the event, saying, “We didn’t want to have to be here but we made history for a second time.”

The presentation ceremony brought together organizers, pizzeria owners, and officials, showcasing the powerful impact of community efforts in times of need. The funds raised will provide crucial support to the Diller family and the selected charities that work tirelessly to back the blue.
